Who goes there?

I'm going to Italy next month with my family. We are staying a month. We have booked the plane tickets and most of the accommodation. We are staying in Rome, Florence, Venice, Tuskany, and we are yet to decide the other places. If anyone has ever been to Italy and has experiences to share, that would be great. Also, I would appreciate if anyone knew other great places to stay, things to do, restauraunts to eat at, useful sayings, or sights to see in Italy.
We are also going to France next year. We know we are definately staying in Paris but if anyone knows some other great places to stay we could try there too. Please also let me know about anything else that is useful to know about France.
I have only ever been to New Zealand and Tasmania. It is my first experience of really going overseas so tips and ideas about traveling would be helpful. Also, If anyone knows a great online site or book to learn French and Italian please let me know.
